Once upon a time there lived a girl named Teresa, who liked holidays very much, because she enjoyed getting presents.
This year Teresa was looking forward to Christmas. She was
dreaming about the big wonderful doll, which she had seen in the store;
about the nice toy puppy with long ears and a short tail; about a new
box with colour pens, in which besides ordinary colours there were
golden and silver pens; about a small leather backpack... She wrote a
letter to Santa Claus.
At last Christmas eve came. Teresa went to bed with a pleasant thought, that in the morning she would get her presents.
At night she woke up. Teresa looked at the electronic clock,
its figures were shining in the darkness. It was 3 o’clock. «So,
Christmas has already come! - thought Teresa. - So, Santa Claus has
already put my presents under the Christmas tree!» And Teresa jumped out
of the bed and ran to the living-room, where there was a smart
Christmas tree... This is, probably, a package for little Peter. Yes,
there is a notice: «For Peter». This is a package for Mother and a box
for Father. But where are her presents? Where is the doll? Where are the
puppy, the pens and the backpack? Where? Teresa sat down on the floor
and burst into tears.
She was crying long and suddenly she heard a voice from
somewhere above: «Teresa!» She turned up her head and saw a tall old
man. He had black boots, a red fur-coat and a cap on. He looked just the
same as Santa Claus on Christmas cards.
- Yes, that’s me, - he said. - Hello, Teresa. Why have you been crying?
- Because I haven’t found my presents, - answered Teresa with grief.
- Hm... But remember, that you were rude with your teachers,
friends and parents, that you didn’t do your homework, got bad marks and
then deceived your Mother and Father and hurt your little brother!-
said Santa Claus strictly. - Do you remember? And now tell me: «Do you
deserve presents?»
- But... But I want the doll, and the puppy, and the pens! - cried Teresa.
- I can send you to the past, and if you correct your mistakes, you will get your presents. Do you agree? - asked Claus.
- O, yes! - said Teresa and...
...she was in the first days of December.
Now she was quite a different person! She spoke politely to
everybody, she got only good marks, she helped her Mother a lot and
never quarrelled with Peter. At first she did her best only to get the
presents, but then forgot about them. Teresa understood, that being
polite, kind and hard-working was better: everybody loved her at school
and at home.
And Christmas came. Of course, you can guess: Teresa found the
doll in a wonderful green dress, the funny puppy with black ears, the
box with colour pens, a very nice backpack and even a bag of sweets
under the Christmas tree. Peter ate half of the sweets, but Teresa
didn’t quarrel with him.

Once upon a time
there lived a boy and his parents. He was an ordinary boy, he went to
school and played with his friends. And he liked dreaming. Christmas was
to come soon, and it’s the time when dreams come true. The boy wanted
to have a puppy. But his parents gave him only toy puppies.
Christmas came. There was a smart small fir-tree at home, a
tasty smell of pies, lighted candles. Everybody was happy. The boy went
to bed early, because he wanted to see Christmas presents. At night he
heard ringing bells and saw a beautiful fairy in the stage coach. She
called him to go with her. The boy was surprised, but he went with the
fairy. Soon they saw a big castle. Elves and dwarfs came out to meet
them.
It was very beautiful in the castle. Presents for all the
children were prepared there. The elves sewed beautiful bags. The dwarfs
put different toys and sweets into the bags. The reindeer brought these
presents to children. The boy started helping them. They worked very
hard.
The boy woke up and looked around. There was a little puppy near his bed. And on the table there was a red dwarf’s cap...

her husband had died many-many years ago and she lived alone. It was
Christmas eve. The woman was very ill. She couldn’t celebrate this
holiday as rich people do.
Soon Christmas came. Suddenly the woman saw an old man. He was
in a red fur-coat and had a large bag on his back. Slowly he came up to
the woman and asked: «What is your wish?» The woman answered: «I’d like
to have a little boy, who will help me». Santa Claus answered: «Give me
your cat». The woman gave him her cat and he turned the cat into a young
boy.
From this day on the woman and her son have lived very happily.

His mother answered:
- There is no problem! We can decorate it with sweets and paper trimmings.
Since that time Tom’s family have always had a New Year tree on Christmas day.
And each Christmas Tom remembers that old and kind man.

Once upon a time
there lived a little girl. Her name was Lisa. In her childhood she
enjoyed listening to fairy tales. Shortly before Christmas she wrote a
letter to Santa Claus. She said that she wanted to meet a fairy from the
fairy-tale. She was looking forward to Christmas. And at last she got a
letter from Santa Claus. It was said in the letter that the fairy would
come to her when she went to bed. Lisa was helping her father to
decorate the Christmas tree, to lay the table, but she was thinking
about meeting the fairy. It was twelve o’clock. Lisa sat down under the
Christmas tree and fell asleep. In her dream she saw a beautiful fairy.
The fairy invited Lisa to her wonderful country. They rode beautiful
white horses, went for a walk in the magic garden and ate fruit. The
fairy gave Lisa a wand and said: «This wand can give you any wish.» Lisa
woke up, she saw the wand and understood that it wasn’t a dream. She
came up to the window and saw a little homeless kitten. And her wish
was: «May all the living creatures have home.»

Once upon a time
there lived a little girl named Eliza. She liked sledging in winter. She
had an old sledge. Her parents could not buy a new sledge for her. It
was Christmas eve. Father brought home a fir-tree. Eliza decorated the
fir-tree with nice trimmings, garlands and tinsel. At night, when she
was sleeping, she had a nice dream: she had a new sledge in her dream.
In the morning when Eliza got up, she saw a new sledge under the
Christmas tree. She liked it very much and asked her Mother and Father,
where it was from. Mother and Father said: «This is a present from Santa
Claus». And happy Eliza went out to sledge.

Once upon a time
there lived a little girl named Kate with her Grandmother in a small
country house in the village. They were very poor, but Grandmother saved
some money and at Christmas Eve she bought a small fir-tree and a cake.
When Grandmother came home, Kate was very glad to see her, and they
started decorating their Christmas tree. Then Grandmother boiled some
water in the kettle and they were going to have a cup of tea. But
suddenly somebody knocked at the door. “Come in!”- said Grandmother. The
door opened and Grandmother and Kate saw a little dwarf. He was very
hungry and cold. “Give me something to eat, please”, - said the dwarf.
“We have very little food, but we will treat you,” - said Grandmother.
They had their meal and the dwarf left. In the morning they found a lot
of presents under the Christmas tree.

Once upon a time
there lived a boy in the country. His name was Peter. His family was
poor. His parents worked all day long, but they didn’t have much money.
It was winter. It was the 31-st of December, the greatest
holiday for all the people - New Year’s eve. People give many beautiful
presents to children and celebrate New Year. But Peter had neither
presents nor a New Year tree. In the evening Peter heard a knock at the
door and opened it. There was Santa Claus and Snow Maiden and the
dwarfs. They decorated the New Year tree with trimmings. The dwarfs gave
Peter a nice Teddy bear. At 12 o’clock Santa Claus said: «Happy New
Year!»
They sang songs and danced round the green New Year tree. Peter was very happy.
The next day in the morning Santa Claus and his friends sat
into the four-reindeer sleigh and went to the magic icy Santa Claus’
castle.

Once upon a time
there lived two brothers. Their names were Sasha and Andrew. Sasha was
very lazy, but Andrew on the contrary was very hard-working and tried to
help everyone.
One day at Christmas eve the parents told the boys to go to the
forest and chop a fir-tree. Sasha pretended he was ill and didn’t go to
the forest. So Andrew went to the forest alone. When he came to the
edge of the forest he decided to look back. He looked back... and he
couldn’t believe his eyes. There were huge pine-trees and he fell into
the deep snow. Christ appeared and said: “You are a good boy, Andrew.
I’ve come to reward you”. And Christ gave him the fir-tree with a star
on its top.
When Andrew came home Sasha was ill. At night Andrew was
thinking about Sasha. In the morning he got up and saw everybody happy
and found out that Sasha had got well and had stopped being lazy.
So Andrey’s wish came true.

There was a little
house not far from the forest. In that house there lived a farmer with
his daughter. His wife had died many years ago. Also there was a
fir-tree in the garden. It was very big and tall. Christmas came. The
farmer was so poor, that he couldn’t buy trimmings for the fir-tree . So
they went to the fairy. She lived in the dark forest. The fairy said:
«Decorate your Christmas tree with old things and you will have your
wish. You will be rich.» The farmer decorated the Christmas tree and
went to bed.
When the farmer and his daughter woke up, they saw many
beautiful trimmings on the Christmas tree. There were a lot of expensive
presents under the tree. The farmer and his daughter were so happy! And
they lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time
there lived a fluffy little Fir-tree in the forest. She had dense
branches and little animals often hid under it from big awful hungry
wolves. Little animals loved the Fir-tree. But big old trees offended
the little tree and laughed at her thorny needles and dark cones. The
Fir-tree was very sad, because she did not have such big, beautiful
leaves, as the Birch had.
One autumn day the trees had an argument, who would be chosen
the Christmas Tree. The Birch said: "I am the fairest one of all. I have
such a shapely trunk, such slim branches. They must invite me to the
party". The Maple objected: "No! I must go to the party. I have big and
colorful leaves." But the Fir-tree wanted to go to the party so much
that she asked: "Perhaps I'll be chosen to go to the party?" When the
trees heard it, they started to laugh at her. The Fir-tree dropped her
branches and cried. Suddenly a Hare came under her branches. He asked
her: "Why are you crying?" And she said: "I want to be chosen Christmas
tree, but all the trees laugh at me and think that I am ugly!"
"On Christmas day all the dreams come true. I'll help you,"- said the
Hare and ran away. Now the Fir-tree had a hope.
Christmas came. She woke up and saw a lot of children around
her playing and singing songs. Then they made a circle around the
Fir-tree and danced merrily. The little Fir-tree was very happy.
Since that time the Fir-tree has been the main symbol of Christmas.

Аt Christmas eve a
little girl wished for a big miracle. And she went to the fairy to ask
her for a big miracle for all the people. But the fairy said: "I can't
work a miracle because the witch had stolen my wand." The girl asked her
how she could find the witch. And the little girl walked and walked and
then she saw a small house. She knocked at the door. The witch opened
the door. But she didn’t want to give the wand back. The girl said: "If I
give you my white ribbon will you give me the wand?" And the witch
agreed. And on Christmas day the fairy got her wand back. It was a real
miracle, worked by the girl.
